FASTPITCH SOFTBALL WRAPS UP REGULAR SEASON

In their final regular-season matchup on Thursday, the GW Geckos made it clear they meant business, defeating the Tiyan Titans 19-9 at home.

With the conclusion of the season, the top four teams move on to Saturday’s semifinals at 10 am.

#2 GW (5-1) vs #3 JFK (3-2) @ GW Field

Geckos senior shortstop Aleia Alcantara wasted no time making a statement to end the regular season. Leading off the game, she hit a deep shot to left field for a home run, firing up the dugout and the crowd.

“I wanted to start strong,” she said after the game. “It’s our last regular season game, and I just wanted to set the tone for the rest of the hitters and have a good game.”

That energy carried throughout the lineup. In the early innings, Mikaelah Santos, Chloe Taijeron, and Misah Elm also kept the momentum going with solid at-bats to load the bases. Alizae Campos also followed with a clutch grounder that brought in two more runs, giving GW an early lead.

In the third inning, Tiyan continued to battle. Despite being down on the scoreboard, the Titans came up with big hits, chased down balls, and competed hard through every inning.

Consistent Plays

The Geckos continued to dominate on the plate and stayed aggressive on base running, something Alcantara noted they’ve been working on all season. Jada Alvarez, Amaura Daga, and Mari Manipol contributed key moments that kept pressure on Tiyan’s defense.

Behind the plate, catcher Daga played a major role in keeping things under control. A sophomore, Daga blocked tough pitches, stayed vocal, and helped control the momentum of the game. “I treated today like practice leading into Saturday,” she said. “I wanted to learn from my mistakes and keep improving.”

Playoff Ready

In the later innings, the Titans made strong defensive plays and key catches that resulted in outs for GW, but the Geckos remained composed.

Late-game hits from Daga, Manipol, Taijeron, and Alcantara pushed the total to 19 runs. Santos handled pitching duties to seal the win in the bottom of the sixth inning.

With playoffs set for Saturday against JFK, the Geckos head into the playoffs with the same energy and a focused mindset. Thursday’s performance proved that this team knows how to start fast and finish even stronger.
