PERFECT CONDITIONS HIGHLIGHT MOTOCROSS ROUND 1

PRESS RELEASE – Round 1 of the 2026 Monster Energy Guam Motocross Championships kicked off under ideal conditions this past Sunday at the Tebo Motocross Park in the village of Yona. After an entire week of rain most enthusiasts and participants believed that Round 1 would be a sure bet to be a mudder. Fortunately, Mother Nature blessed the event with a perfect track and racing conditions.

Championship classes included kids mini bike and mini atv classes that saw a fresh group of new faces racing for their first time of which several of whom participated in the GMXC Learn to Ride Day held earlier in the month. Other classes included and ranged from the kids 65cc and 85cc classes all the way up to the Open ATV and Open Motorcycles which saw the older crowd participating in.

Round 1 was a triple crown which meant each class would be racing three heats and be awarded points according to their finish for each of the three races known also as heats or motos to determine their overall standing for the round.

In the premier Open Motorcycle class young Richard Wenden took his hard charging on the edge riding style aboard the #31 Rocky Mountain Precast Ktm to the round 1 overall win by finishing a 2^nd a 1^st and a 1^st in his three heats. Wenden bested the Guam reigning and multi time champion #1 JR Cepeda aboard his Kawasaki who finished the round 2^nd overall with 1^st, a 4^th and a 2^nd. Taking the final step on the podium in 3^rd was Blaze Aiken aboard a CyclesPlus Kawasaki finishing his three heats with a 3^rd, a 2nd and a 5^th. #3 Tim Wenden took 4^th overall with #18 Little Jon Aguon rounding out the top 5.

In the premier Open Atv class the action was intense as several of our islands top atv racers banged bars and rubbed wheels as they fought their way around the course. Taking the overall was reigning champion Rob Bucek aboard a CyclesPlus Suzuki ltr450 with a 2,1,1 finish in his three heats. Taking 2^nd overall was #9 Camillo Lorenzo on a Yamaha Yfz450 with a 1,2, and 4 finish in the three heats. 3^rd overall was taken by #2 John Gilman on his YamahaYfz450 followed by #7 Gavin Lorenzo in 4^th.

The Schoolboy combined with the Novice class had #8 Jonboy Agoun sweeping all three heats for the overall in both the Schoolboy and Novice classes. #141 Julian Lane took a strong second in the Schoolboy class with #31 Mariana Wenden taking a break from her score keeping duties to finish in 3^rd. #88 Terrance Gabutin placing 2^nd in the Novice class with #31 Mariana Wenden grabbing another 3^rd .

In the Over 40 Vet class #505 Justin Chinana took the overall round win over #77 Gregorio Perez who was followed by the Overall winner in the over 55 Legends class #75 Jeffro Rios and 2^nd place finisher #101 Rob Bucek who was taking up racing on both motorcycles and atvs this season.

The kids minibike and kids mini atv classes are a crowd favorite as friends and family become quite vocal cheering and waving their arms to help inspire their friend, brother, sister or child on. The racing is always exciting but half the excitement comes from the intensity of those on the sidelines watching. In the 65cc class round 1 witnessed an all girl lineup and they put on a great race. Taking first was #111 Mazzy Chinana followed by #31 Jenna Wenden in 2^nd and #23 Gianna, Geegee, Lane in third.

The 85cc class had Aiden Mantanona taking 1^st with Elias SanNicolas in 2^nd. Finishing 3^rd was #11 Jayce Mantanona.

The Mini Atv class #10 Giancarlo Lorenzo took the overall win but had his hands full with rookie racer #7 Tyler Onedera who took the first and second heat wins only to push his machine to its breaking point literally Tyler broke his Drr90 in half in the third heat with only a lap left in that final heat while leading leaving the rookie Tyler heart broken with a dnf or did not finish score of 0 for the heat. This relegated Tyler to a 3^rd place overall with #88 Cole Castro aboard the smallest machine of the day taking 2^nd overall.

The racing wrapped up late Sunday afternoon to the sweet smell of marinated meats on several barbecues and children playing  and laughing as they climbed and explored the now quite race track giving parents a chance to relax under the canopies or shade trees to revisit the days action with friends and family. With the closing of the Guam International Raceway 3 years ago this family time for many was sorely missed it’s great to see it coming back now thanks in part to the great support from our islands businesses such as Triple j,  CyclesPlus, Rocky Mountain Precast, Fastenal, Proa, MPFE, Unitek, and of course Monster Energy.

Round 2 will be open for spectators to come and enjoy on Sunday February 22^nd with the racing starting at about 11:30 that morning at the Tebo Motocross Park in the village of Yona.
