More than 20 Guam runners were part of over 31,000 participants in the Honolulu Marathon on Sunday in Hawaii.
53-year-old Peter Blas was the top Guam finisher in a time of three hours, 34 minutes, 17 seconds. Only two other Guam runners broke the four-hour mark: Robbie Garrido (3:42:04) and Mylene Garcia (3:58:42), the top Guam female finisher.
This is Blas’ third marathon – all within the last year – and he beat his old time by more than 20 minutes.
The course started along Ala Moana Beach Park at 5 a.m. local and headed west toward downtown Honolulu before heading back east all the down to Hawaii Kai for the first 16 miles. The course came right back for the final 10 miles along Diamond Head Road before finishing at the Kapiolani Park.
