In IIAAG high school boy’s soccer action, the Okkodo Bulldogs earned a 2-0 win Thursday afternoon over the Harvest Christian Academy Eagles at the Eagles’ home field.
Though the Eagles had control of the game, once again using their passing game to their advantage, the Bulldogs’ stingy defensive line along with keeper Hurao Iriarte shutout the Eagles offense. The Eagles were able to create many opportunities at the goal, but were unable to capitalize. On the other hand, with the handful of opportunities the Bulldogs had, they made it count when it needed to.
Bulldogs’ team captain, Aaron Blaz, went right to work, scoring the first goal of the game in the first minute.
“I was wide open; I was giving my friend Logan [Kanemoto] a sign. He chipped it over the defender and I was able to head that one in,” said Blaz.
Later in the 32nd, Blaz notched in the second and final goal off a free kick just outside the 18-yard box, positioned at a hard left angle.

“I was trying to curve it in; it started bouncing on the ground, and I thought one of my teammates was going to touch it but he didn’t, so it just rolled in.”
In the second half, both teams continued to try and get points on the scoreboard. Blaz almost completed a hat trick in the 62nd minute, however, his shot nearly missed the goal, bouncing off the pole and out bounds.
“I’m really amazed by the boys that are on this team, there’s a lot of talent. We’re doing really well, we’re working together, and we just keep practicing,” said Blaz.
