Just as they defeated them in the IIAAG finals, the Southern High Dolphins beat the GW Geckos in three sets yet again, 25-17, 21-25, 15-12 in the silver division of the 2012 Far East Girls Volleyball Tournament.

Southern’s Lorraina Sanchez proved to be a formidable force against the Geckos, protecting her net from any dropped balls.

“We came out like we played in the championship game. There were a couple times where we fell apart, but we managed to come together as a team and pick each other back up,” said Sanchez.

Down midway through the second set, the Dolphins began to make their comeback taking the lead for the first time at 21-20 after an ace and a kill by Brittany Quinata and two straight kills from Sanchez. However the Geckos would not give the Dolphins the easy two set win, going on a 5-0 run to close out the set that included a Tisha-Renee Aguigui kill and two Gabrielle Muna aces.

The Dolphins took an early 6-2 lead in the third set thanks to an April Talledo kill into the corner. The Geckos began to make a comeback again tying the set at 9 apiece after another Aguigui kill and Southerns errors. A few more Dolphin errors put the Geckos up 12-10, giving the Dolphins a scare. But remaining composed despite the pressure, this time the Dolphins went on a 5-0 run of their own with the help of Sanchez’s block and Paige Surbers three untouched kills to end the set and the game.
