After all the cuts, bruises, hard hits, and scorching heat, the intensified Bud Light Rugby Series comes to a close this Saturday, June 29, as the final teams for both the men’s and women’s division battle it out to determine who can boastfully hold that Championship trophy.
In the Bud Light Women’s 7s Rugby Series, the Para Todu Lady Lions exerted their dominance in every round of play, consistently remaining as the top seeded team throughout the weeks. Their hard work earned themselves a rightful spot in the Championship Cup Match which will take place at the Wettengel Field. Joining them in the 3 PM match will be the Ziggy’s, and fans can expect a full two halves of intense competition.
Shortly after the women’s championship is the Budweiser Men’s 15s Championship Cup Match at 3:30 PM, which determines who the best of the best in Guam rugby is. The two teams going face to face are the Para Todu Lions and the Guam Rugby Club (GRC).
Gamers prior to the championships are the third and fourth place match ups starting at 12:30 PM with the Bud Light Women’s Bowl Match as Poksai takes on the Lady Chiefs. And at 1 PM will be the Budweiser Men’s Bowl Match featuring the Chiefs and the Southside.
Now along with bragging rights, the winners of both Championship Cup Matches will be awarded with prize packages for their hard work, dedication, and love for the sport of rugby.

Although, out on the field the passion and intensity for the game is high, at the end of every match it’s more of a friendly bout rather than a competitive standoff. With a closely knit rugby community, great class and sportsmanship is shown by the players, showing upcoming rugby standouts the right way to play the game. And with these consistent Rugby Series taking place, the practice time many dedicated individuals put in day and night can finally be shown out on the field and tested against others who have the same passion and drive.
Guam Rugby is growing as we speak, and the level of play is increasing by the day thanks to individuals who have worked hard in the Rugby community. If you were to stop by Wettengel Field from around 12:30 to 4:30 on Saturday June 29, you definitely will not be disappointed, except for the fact that, “Why didn’t you start showing up earlier?”
