The Guam International Raceway will play host to another awesome weekend of racing, drifting, and off-roading during the 2013 Circle K 76 Smokin’ Wheels Weekend.

This year’s Off-Road Buggies and Trucks Endurance Race will feature a local duo who haven’t teamed up with each other for a number of years now: Guam’s Joey Crisostomo and Henry Simpson will tag-team in the three-hour long race. Both of these veteran competitors have an extensive background in motorsports. Simpson has won the this particular event ten times and looks to add an eleventh. Crisostomo has been racing motorcycles since the early age of eleven and in the last ten years has been racing in buggies and the like. Crisostomo has won his share of events during numerous Smokin’ Wheels weekends. The event will also feature John Walker who won the race in 2011, but missed it in 2012; Walker returns eager to get on the track as well. Japan’s Ikuo Hanawa is a ten-year veteran with Smokin’ Wheels, is last years champion, and is back to take it again.

The Off-Road Enduro is just one of the many exciting events to see this weekend. Friday night will feature Street Night at the Dragstrip and a burnout competition.

Cafe Bikes (2)Then at 8A.M. Saturday, fans can enjoy the Monster Energy MX Heat 1 and the All Japan ATV Championship to start off the day. Later on the drift competition will take place, judged by Japan’s pro drifter, Kenji Yamanaka. At 6P.M. the newest edition to the Smokin’ Weekend is HafaDAZE.com’s Autofiesta Car Show. The night will end with the Drag race championships, with money prizes for winners in their respective categories.

Sunday will showcase the ever popular 76 Circle K Mud Bogs. Also taking place is the Miller Lite Smokin’ Grills competition, as restaurants and average Joe’s feature their different marinations for their barbeque.

The best part of the weekend?

“The whole weekend. From the mud bogs, to the drag racing, the Smokin’ Grills, the drifting, the endurance race, you can’t just pick one,” said Crisostomo and Simpson.

So bring out the family to the fun event, where there will be food, drinks, and races of all sorts all weekend long.

QUICK HITS

Guam’s Wayne Blas completed his 13th Boston Marathon and 38th marathon overall.
The island’s record holder in the distance, Blas finished this year in 2:35:21.
“I’m very happy with this result because seven months ago, I was sidelined with a stress fracture that kept me out for three months. No running! To come back on an abbreviated marathon build and finish one of the toughest races strong and healthy was a big win for me.”
His time of 2:29:38 at the 2023 Chicago Marathon and World Marathon Majors Age Group Championships stands as the Guam National Record.
