GUNS HIT RED HOT IN WIN

FABL-page-001PRESS RELEASE – The Asan Guns and Barrigada Crusaders faced off in Budweiser Fall Amateur Baseball League action Thursday night at Leo Palace Resort in a wild one that saw nine batters hit between the two teams. The Guns(2-3) would outslug the Crusaders and take a 15-7 win.

The Guns took a 7-1 lead in the third inning capped by a line shot by Henry Salas that cleared the wall in left field for a two run homerun. The Crusaders would cut the lead in to 7-4 in the 4th inning thanks to a long two run homerun by Eddie Garza.  The Guns would put the game away with eight runs in the top of the 5th inning and would hold off the Crusaders in the bottom half of the inning for a 15-7 victory as time expired.

Malcolm Chaco went 4 for 4 with a double and 4RBI to share Strike Zone Player of the Game with Henry Salas who was 2 for 4 with a double, homerun and 4RBI.  Hank Salas would go 2 2/3 innings in relief to collect the win as the Guns improve to 2-3.

Eddie Garza homered for the Crusaders and Howard Wolford was 2 for 3 in the loss.  The Crusaders fall to 2-4 on the season.

Check out Budweiser Fall Amateur Baseball League action this weekend at Leo Palace Resort including a special free hitting clinic held by Guam’s very own Trae Santos on Saturday at 1pm.  The Clinic is to support the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network and donations are welcome.

QUICK HITS

The Figo Islanders 40s women’s softball team took gold in the Senior Softball World Championship in Las Vegas. Figo came out of the loser’s bracket and beat the Arizona Belles 17-3 in the AA division championship game Sunday afternoon.
Other Guam teams that played in the 40s tournament were: Team SOTTA (women’s) and Bud Light Guam, Friars 671 and Sindalun Guahan (men’s).
Sindalu finished a respectable 4th out of 24 AAA division teams.

In Guam’s first time competing in the FIBA Asia Cup, we draw China, Japan, and Mongolia in Group C. Competition begins in 2024. Guam also moves up the FIBA world rankings to #76.
