Despite the constant rain and pour the past couple of days, mother nature decided to change things for Tuesday afternoon’s first tennis matches of the season. With clear skies and nice warm weather, no one could ask for a more perfect day to open up the 2013 IIAAG Girls and Boys high school tennis season, and what an opening it was!

The Agana Tennis Courts hosted very impressive performances as the St. John’s Knights defeated the Guam High Panthers 28-13 in the Boys Division and 24-15 in the Girls Division. Knights’ top players David Okuhama and You Young Cho showcased their talents and what they have to bring to the table beating both their Panther opponents 8-2.

And in the girls division, both the Panthers and the Knights had fabulous single players. Panthers’ Chloe Gadsden blanked out Annette Kang 8-0, while the Knights’ very own Allie Lai displayed her tennis skills by pulling off a blank-out of her own, beating Panthers’ Samantha Wilson 8-0.

At the Tamuning courts, the Father Duenas Friars showed they mean business this year. Losing their top two players, Kenta Tanimoto to graduation and Alex Ornbo to off-island transferring, the Friars were still able to come up with their first win of the season defeating the Harvest Eagles 28-10. With a 48 game win streak, FD is the team everyone is aiming to take down, but don’t expect the Friars to go down without a fight.
