IFIT 5K GREENER AND FASTER

PRESS RELEASE – Cash prizes for the top male and female finishers, coupled with a raffle grand prize of two roundtrip tickets to the U.S. top the Bank of Guam’s prizes for their 7th Annual Ifit 5K Run on March 9, 2013 benefitting Guam Cancer Care.

The first place finishers in the men’s and women’s category will receive $500.00, while the second and third place finishers will receive $300 and $200 respectively. The non-profit or school with the most number of participants will receive $500.

Billed as the only 5K race on Guam lined with cheering bankers and loud music in downtown Hagatna, be prepared for enthusiastic reception all along the race course, scheduled for a 6AM start on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at the Bank’s Hagatna Headquarters.

In its 7th year, the Bank-organized Annual Run rivals the island’s largest runs, and its proceeds benefit Guam Cancer Care. Guam Cancer Care provides free professional support services to any Guam resident adversely affected by cancer. Programs include patient navigation and advocacy, screening, partial funding, counseling, support groups, education and transportation coordination.

Known as Guam’s “greenest” run, runners can register online at ifit5k.eventbrite.com. Registration forms will be available at the Guam Cancer Care , all Bank of Guam branches and Hornet Bicycle Shop in Tamuning. Priced at only $10 per registration before the race (and $15 on raceday), quick dry t-shirts will be given to the first 1000 finishers, and medals will be given in the men’s and women’s top categories.

Sponsors are signing up and prizes are being donated which will be announced prior to raceday.

Co-chairs for this event are Mike Naholowaa, Bank of Guam Vice President, and Terry Cuabo, Executive Director for Guam Cancer Care.

QUICK HITS

The Prospects captured the Guam PONY Colt Spring Baseball League (14-16) championship Saturday with a masterful 2-0 win over the Smokies.
Pitchers Gavin Alcantara (5 innings) and Javier Taimanglo (2 innings) combined to throw a no-hitter.
Taimanglo and Juan Carlo Presnell drove in the two runs for the Prospects, and Skyler Paulino had two hits.

Guam Blooded: Joel Toves has signed to play college volleyball for the UC-Merced Bobcats. He is the son of Arianne and Phillip Toves of Dededo and grandson of Ed and Paulette Toves of Malesso.
Joel will be on Guam over the summer to help out with his uncle Al Garrido’s volleyball camps with the Legacy Volleyball Club.
