The JFK Islanders and the AOLG Cougars ended their IIAAG girls high school soccer match up with a 3-3 tie Wednesday night at JFK field. Evident in the score, these two teams were evenly matched providing an exciting game for spectators.

The Islanders put pressure on the Academy defense for most of the game. However, they’re numerous attempts at the goal went too wide, or right to the keeper. The aggressive play and constant attempts finally paid off when midfielder Arisa Recella passed a through ball that allowed Liz Manibusan to tap it into the goal.

Recella found the back of the net seconds after taking the ball all the way up by herself, kicking past the charging keeper to put Islanders up 2-0.

The second half saw the Islanders applying the same pressure, but Cougars’ Gemilie Ilao slipped in a goal past the JFK keeper midway through the second half.

Andrea Odell connected with Ilao on a corner kick giving the Cougars and Illao their second goal tying the game at two a piece.

With the game tied at 2-2, Recella took action again taking the ball up, easily maneuvering her way past the defenders and scoring in the far right corner to put her team up 3-2 in the 79th minute.

To the everyone’s surprise, Odell then knotted the game at 3-3 off a free kick in the final minute of the game, saving her team from the loss.

The Cougar’s are now 4-1-1 and the Islanders at 2-2-2.
