[sixcol_five_last]

PRESS RELEASE – The Bud Light Women’s Fast-Pitch League action continued  Saturday at Leo Palace Resort with the Tough Chicks(2-0) taking on Bottomed Out(0-1) in the first game of the day.  The Tough Chicks would continue their hot hitting slugging out thirteen hits to score seventeen runs and take down Bottomed Out by a final of 17-11.

Bottomed Out would start the scoring in the 1st inning scoring three runs on two errors and no hits to take the early 3-0 lead.  After back to back walks to Latoya Mojica and Dez Gumataotao to start the inning, Vanessa Cruz would reach on error giving Bottomed Out a 2-0 lead.  Tiara Santos would drive in the third run of the inning with a sac fly to left.

The hot hitting Tough Chicks would come out in the bottom half of the 1st swinging the bats.  Justine Laanan and Marissa Maratita would start things off with back to back singles before Cami Muna would drive in the first run on a grounder the 3rd baseman couldn’t handle.  Maria Cruz would follow with a line single to left to tie up the game at 3-3.  Misty Palomo would reach on a hit by pitch and Jerica Casil would walk and Danielle Preuc would double to drive them in giving the Tough Chicks a 7-3 lead before Bottomed Out had managed an out in the inning.  Justine Laanan  and Maria Cruz would keep the rally going with their second hits of the inning and  Jerica Casil would cap off the rally with a single to give the Tough Chicks a 11-3 lead after one inning of play.

Bottomed Out would battle back in the top of the 2nd inning.  Back to back walks to Kim Bamba and Jauria Camacho would set the table and Dez Gumataotao and Tomisha Roberta would deliver with rbi singles to cut the lead 10-7 and chase Tough Chicks starting pitcher Jessey Pereda.  Danielle Preuc would come in to relieve and give up a 2 rbi single to Jazmine Pecina before recording the 3rd out and holding on to the 11-10 lead.

Tough Chicks would continue in the bottom of the 2nd where the left off with leadoff hitter Margaret Cepeda singling and coming in to score on Justine Laanan’s third hit of the game.  Marissa Maratita and Misty Palomo would add rbi singles to cap a four run rally and stake the Tough Chicks to a 15-11 lead after two innings.

Tough Chicks reliever Danielle Preuc would put it in cruise control and settle down retiring Bottomed Out in the 3rd inning and would allow only one run over the last three innings.  Bottomed Out starter Tiff Miner would also lock in on the mound shutting down the Tough Chicks hot sticks but it was too little too late as Bottomed Out couldn’t overcome the early deficit.

The Tough Chicks would hold on for a 17-11 win improving their record to 2-0 on the season.  Danielle Preuc picks up the win to also improve to 2-0.  Tough Chick’s Justine Laanan picks up Strike Zone Player of the Game collecting four hits, four runs, an rbi and two stolen bases.  Tomisha Roberta was two for three in the loss for Bottomed Out who drop to 0-1 on the season.

In the second game of the day Baby Bottomed Out(1-1) picked up the easy win via forfeit over the Lady Diamonds(0-1).

QUICK HITS

Guam’s Wayne Blas completed his 13th Boston Marathon and 38th marathon overall.
The island’s record holder in the distance, Blas finished this year in 2:35:21.
“I’m very happy with this result because seven months ago, I was sidelined with a stress fracture that kept me out for three months. No running! To come back on an abbreviated marathon build and finish one of the toughest races strong and healthy was a big win for me.”
His time of 2:29:38 at the 2023 Chicago Marathon and World Marathon Majors Age Group Championships stands as the Guam National Record.
