MARATHON REGISTRATION COMING TO A CLOSE

Registration for the 2014 Guam International Marathon is coming to a close already setting record numbers!

Record numbers of local and international runners to participate

PRESS RELEASE – (Tumon, GUAM) – Monday, March 31, 2014 – The Guam Visitors Bureau, along with the Pacific Islands Club Guam and United Airlines will host the Guam International Marathon set to take place on Sunday, April 13, 2014.

Runners can register online at www.guaminternationalmarathon.com or at the Pacific Islands Club in Tumon. Registration will close on Tuesday, April 8, 2014. Online registration is the most convenient, accurate and environmentally-friendly way to register with no additional fees. Online registrants will receive a confirmation email which allows them the opportunity to sign up for live race day results tracking through social media (Facebook and Twitter) and mobile phone devices.

Over 2,300 runners have already registered, with over 1,250 of those coming from core visitor markets such as Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Philippines, Australia and the United States mainland. More than 600 runners in total have registered so far to run the marathon, 600 in the half marathon, 500 in the 10K and over 600 in the 5K. Space is limited to 700 and 1,000 runners in the 10K and 5K, respectively.

Registered runners are reminded that race packets (timing chip/bib) can only be picked up on Friday or Saturday, April 11th or 12th from 10am to 6pm at the GIM Expo to be held at the Pacific Islands Club Pacific Pavilion. Race packet pick up is mandatory. Runners will not be allowed to participate in the event without a timing chip/bib. GIM participants and spectators are encouraged to follow and post updates and photos of this year’s event using #GIM2014 on GIM social media channels – Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

The Guam International Marathon is also sponsored by ASC Trust Corporation, Bank of Guam, DFS Galleria, Docomo Pacific, Powerade, Nanbo Insurance, Tokyo Marine Pacific, Taico Corporation, SPPC 76 and Circle K, Luckland, Taico Corporation, TakeCare Insurance and the stations of KUAM.

The JFK Islanders won the first ever Memorial Weekend High School Basketball Tournament.

The All-Tournament selection were Zhion Macapinlac JFK, Darwin Ecijan JFK, Matthew Quinata Southern, and Malcom Fernandez Tiyan.

JFK’s Collin Rillamas was named tournament MVP.

The Prospects captured the Guam PONY Colt Spring Baseball League (14-16) championship Saturday with a masterful 2-0 win over the Smokies.
Pitchers Gavin Alcantara (5 innings) and Javier Taimanglo (2 innings) combined to throw a no-hitter.
Taimanglo and Juan Carlo Presnell drove in the two runs for the Prospects, and Skyler Paulino had two hits.
