PRESS RELEASE – A pair of comebacks headlined the opening week of the Bud Light Women’s Soccer League fall season at the Guam Football Association National Training Center Sunday.
After falling behind 2-1 in the first half, Guam Shipyard came back in the deciding half to defeat the Strykers 5-3 with goals from Aubrienne Pangindian, Meredith Magher, Cera Taguacta, and Demi Rose Brennan. Shipyard’s other goal came on a Strykers own goal in the first half. Christina Duenas, Koharu Minato, and Dansha Magalhaes scored for the Strykers.
On United Airlines Field 1, the Lady Rovers pulled a second-half comeback of their own, edging Quality Distributors 2-1 for the victory in the team’s season opener. Quality led 1-0 at the half with an early goal from Ginalynn Naburn, but about nine minutes into the deciding half, Rhoda Bamba leveled the contest getting her shot into the right corner of the goal in a goalmouth scramble. Later, a pass up the left flank from Kyung Shipman sent Niki Perkins on the attack and finish for the eventual game-winner in the 63rd minute.

Guam Shipyard’s Meredith Magher sends the ball forward from the center line in her team’s opening week match of the Bud Light Women’s Soccer League fall season against the Paintco Lady Strykers at the Guam Football Association National Training Center. Guam Shipyard defeated the Lady Strykers 5-3.
In the evening’s late match, Doosan Lady Crushers started the team’s title defense with a 15-1 win over a shorthanded Hyundai team. Teenagers Skyylerblu Johnson and Colleen Naden led the defending champions with hat tricks and teammates Nieves Cabreza, Katie Mills and Brittany Meno each scored twice. Ha’ane Taitano, Carla Haddock, and Maria Abbey Iriarte scored the team’s other goals. Olivia Flores scored Hyundai’s lone goal in the 10th minute off a breakaway from the center line.
Before the official start of the league matches, Adidas training balls, donated by league sponsor Bud Light, were presented to each team in the league.
Women’s soccer continues Sunday with Quality taking on Hyundai on United Airlines Field 2 with a 5:30 p.m. kick off time, and the Lady Strykers playing against the Lady Strykers on United Airlines Field 1, also at 5:30 p.m. The Lady Rovers will play the late match against Shipyard on United Airlines Field 1 beginning at 7:30 p.m.
