PAET, HOLLAND WIN GCC/FHB JOHN LEE 5K

Sherwin Paet and Marian Holland take the GCC/FHB 5K this morning.

PRESS RELEASE – From a field of nearly 300 runners, Sherwin Paet crossed the finished line in 20:23 to win the Guam Community College/First Hawaiian Bank 2nd annual John K. Lee Scholarship Fund 5K Run/Walk this morning at Chamorro Village. Marian Holland was the top female finisher with a time of 21:57.

The John Lee 5K is hosted by the students of GCC’s Supervision and Management Personnel Supervision classes, and jointly sponsored by the GCC Foundation and First Hawaiian Bank. Lee Jr., former First Hawaiian Bank Guam and CNMI Senior Vice President/ Region Supervisor, former GCC Foundation board member and avid supporter of Guam Community College. Mrs. Clare Lee told participants after the race this morning that today is also her late husband’s birthday, “and it’s the biggest party he ever had!” Major race sponsor United Airlines provided one economy-class round-trip ticket to the U.S. via Honolulu. QUICK HITS

Guam’s Wayne Blas completed his 13th Boston Marathon and 38th marathon overall.
The island’s record holder in the distance, Blas finished this year in 2:35:21.
“I’m very happy with this result because seven months ago, I was sidelined with a stress fracture that kept me out for three months. No running! To come back on an abbreviated marathon build and finish one of the toughest races strong and healthy was a big win for me.”
His time of 2:29:38 at the 2023 Chicago Marathon and World Marathon Majors Age Group Championships stands as the Guam National Record.
