PAET, HOLLAND WIN GCC/FHB JOHN LEE 5K

Sherwin Paet and Marian Holland take the GCC/FHB 5K this morning.

PRESS RELEASE – From a field of nearly 300 runners, Sherwin Paet crossed the finished line in 20:23 to win the Guam Community College/First Hawaiian Bank 2nd annual John K. Lee Scholarship Fund 5K Run/Walk this morning at Chamorro Village. Marian Holland was the top female finisher with a time of 21:57.

The John Lee 5K is hosted by the students of GCC’s Supervision and Management Personnel Supervision classes, and jointly sponsored by the GCC Foundation and First Hawaiian Bank. Proceeds from the annual run/walk directly benefit GCC students in the form of scholarships in honor of the late John K. Lee Jr., former First Hawaiian Bank Guam and CNMI Senior Vice President/ Region Supervisor, former GCC Foundation board member and avid supporter of Guam Community College. Mrs. Clare Lee told participants after the race this morning that today is also her late husband’s birthday, “and it’s the biggest party he ever had!” Major race sponsor United Airlines provided one economy-class round-trip ticket to the U.S. via Honolulu. QUICK HITS

After a star-studded collegiate career at UCLA, Bubba Nickles turns her focus on the Tokyo Olympics with Team USA after the Bruins were eliminated in the College World Series.

Nickles endured a broken arm on April 7 and worked her way back into the Bruins lineup for the WCWS. She will go down as one of UCLA’s best softball players in its storied history.
