PRESS RELEASE – The Sidekicks officially clinched the championship title in Division II of the Budweiser Soccer League following a 1-1 draw with the Rovers DII in Week 15 action at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.
The 13-1-1 Sidekicks, which had its undefeated streak snapped in a Week 14 loss to the Crushers FC, needed at least a draw against the Rovers DII (9-3-3) to secure the division title with three more weeks left in the season.
A goal from the Sidekicks’ Shaine Munoz in the 10th minute helped his team to a 1-0 lead at half time, but minutes into the second half, a goal from the Rovers DII’s Agustin Choi leveled the match. The Rovers DII, needing nothing less than a win to stay in contention for the division title, attempted a handful of attacking plays in the deciding half, but the team was denied each time by a strong Sidekicks defense, resulting in the 1-1 draw.
In other Week 15 Division II matches, the Ambassadors picked up a 6-1 win over the current third-ranked team, Big Blue. Cheick Konda scored twice for the Ambassadors and teammates Nicholas Teves, Christopher Nowlin, Vasin Jungtrakoolchan, and Jeremy Boldt also scored. Nathan Camacho scored Big Blue’s lone goal.
Pele Torres, credited with two goals, scored the game winner in the 90th minute for FC Beercelona in the team’s 5-4 win over Doosan FC. Davin Quinata also scored twice for FC Beercelona and teammate Frank Shimizu scored the team’s other goal. Anthony Manibusan, Matthew Robles, Cheyne Robles, and Dustin Alger scored Doosan’s goals.
The Crushers FC edged the FC Shotguns 2-1 with goals from Franklin Castro and Nicolas Cabuhat. Inochi Recella scored the Shotguns’ lone goal.
The Pago Bay Disasters picked up a 5-1 win over Xtra Krispy FC, led by Jarred Meno’s hat trick. Alvin Merfalen and Gavin Santos also scored for the Disasters. Joseph Capulong scored Xtra Krispy’s goal.
In Division I play, Jan-Willem Staman’s free kick in the closing seconds lifted Quality Distributors FC over the Rovers DI 3-2. Staman also scored in the first half and teammate Shane Casey scored Quality’s other goal. Ian Mariano scored both goals for the Rovers DI.
Table 35/Fuji Ichiban Espada FC defeated the Paintco Strykers 3-0. Andre Gadia scored twice for Espada and teammate Mark Chargualaf also scored.
