GET READY FOR A SMOKIN’ WHEELS WEEKEND

The 2015 Smokin’ Wheels Racing Weekend and More takes place this Friday (4/17), Saturday (4/18) and Sunday (4/19) at the Guam International Raceway in Yigo.

PRESS RELEASE – The 2015 Smokin’ Wheels Racing Weekend and More takes place this Friday (4/17), Saturday (4/18) and Sunday (4/19) at the Guam International Raceway in Yigo. 

Since 1978, Smokin’ Wheels has been the premier event for Off-Road Endurance Racing, Off-Road buggies, trucks, SUBs and homemade race vehicles, as well as Motocross racing, ATV racing, Drifting and Drag Racing. This year’s race will feature the return of Ikuo Hanawa, 2014 Off-Road Endurance champion, while the duo of Henry Simpson and Joey Crisostomo to try to claim the title from him. Looking to also take the championship this year in the Off-Road Endurance is the Jones Family – Robert, Jeff and Jay in their sophomore year of racing in this event in the Ford F-150 Raptor. 

Friday night, things begin with Street Night at the Dragstrip. 

Saturday will feature the Monster Motocross events, Off-Road Buggies and Trucks racing & All Japan ATV Championship during the day. This year’s activities will include the Showoff Guam Car Show and Smokin’ Wheels Drag Race Championships on Saturday night. Fans can expect to see over 100 of the best looking cars on island.

Sunday, the minibike endurance kicks things off at 7am. Families can watch more racing actions with the ATVs, Motorcycles, Off-Road Buggies and Trucks. The popular Jack Daniel’s Smokin’ Grills BBQ Competition will also be happening. 

Tickets are available at all Shell Stations or at the gate. $10 for day passes and $20 for weekend passes. No outside food, drinks and coolers will be allowed because there will be food and drinks available for sale.

QUICK HITS

The JFK Islanders won the first ever Memorial Weekend High School Basketball Tournament.

The All-Tournament selection were Zhion Macapinlac JFK, Darwin Ecijan JFK, Matthew Quinata Southern, and Malcom Fernandez Tiyan.

JFK’s Collin Rillamas was named tournament MVP.

The Prospects captured the Guam PONY Colt Spring Baseball League (14-16) championship Saturday with a masterful 2-0 win over the Smokies.
Pitchers Gavin Alcantara (5 innings) and Javier Taimanglo (2 innings) combined to throw a no-hitter.
Taimanglo and Juan Carlo Presnell drove in the two runs for the Prospects, and Skyler Paulino had two hits.
