2020 GSPN PRESEASON BASKETBALL TOURNEY TIPS OFF

Opening night in the Preseason tourney!

The 2020 GSPN Preseason Basketball Tournament, presented by the Guam Army National Guard, tipped off at the FD Jungle Friday night with a pair of games to get action started. The Notre Dame Royals opened up the night facing off the Tiyan Titans and the defending tournament champion Warriors took on the St. John’s Knights in the late game.

ND 56, Tiyan 48

The Royals picked up a win on opening night with a smooth 14 points for Bryce Chargualaf, who hit four three-pointers in the tourney debut. The Royals were able to keep pace with the Titans until pulling ahead for good late in the second half. ND also got a lift from Shawn Lamparero with 11 points and Juan Duenas scored 11 points to lead the Titans.

St. Paul 75, St. John’s 37

The defending tourney champs looked very strong on opening night running out to a 26-0 lead in the opening quarter against an Iron-man squad of five Knights. Josiah Quintanilla led the Warriors with 20 points and St. John’s got a boost from guard Miles Ganeb, who scored 17 including five three-pointers.

Nadine Del Carmen graduated from Santa Clara University on June 11. She was named captain of the Santa Clara women’s tennis team in her senior year and she will be attending Georgetown University in the fall to pursue her masters and will be playing for the Hoyas women’s tennis team.

After a star-studded collegiate career at UCLA, Bubba Nickles turns her focus on the Tokyo Olympics with Team USA after the Bruins were eliminated in the College World Series. Nickles endured a broken arm on April 7 and worked her way back into the Bruins lineup for the WCWS. She will go down as one of UCLA’s best softball players in its storied history.
