2021 MONSTER ENERGY MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIPS ROUND 5

PRESS RELEASE – Guam International Raceway Motorcycle and ATV Corporation

2021 Monster Energy Guam Motocross Championships Round 5

Round 5 of the 10 round 2021 Monster Energy Guam Motocross Championships was held this past Sunday at the Guam International Raceway in Yigo with covid19 safety protocols still in place. Racing kicked off at 11:30am after a full morning of warm up practices that began at 8am. Classes ranged from several sized kids minibike and atv classes along with a women’s minibike class up to the larger fuller sized machines of the 250, 450, Open and Over 40 Vet classes.  An Open Novice Motorcycle class for those riders who are newer to the sport of motocross was created during the round 3 event and continues to grow in participants at each round. The track conditions were perfect on Sunday with the support of Rocky Mountain Precast providing water support to help keep the dust down. The course had also several new features added to its one and a half mile layout to further challenge the participants and thrill the onlookers.

Highlights and results

In the Open Motorcycle class round five finally saw the unbeaten #1 Cyclesplus Kawasaki of Little Jon Aguon win streak come to an end. Heat one off the gate it was as usual the #1 of Aguon pulling out a lead with Yamaha mounted #45 Deven Castro in second with #7 JR Cepeda right behind and the #85 of Blaze Aiken in tow. Quickly slipping by the #45 of Castro were the #7 Yamaha of Cepeda and the #85 Kawasaki of Blaze Aiken. Cepeda and Aiken quickly reeled in the #1 of Aguon and a battle was on. The three top riders went side to side but Aguon refused the position and took the first heat win with Cepeda second and Aiken in third. This battle wasn’t over yet and would continue in the final second heat held later that day.

Heat two had the #7 Yamaha of JR Cepeda rocketing out the gate into the lead which he stretched after several hard charging laps. In second was the #1 Kawasaki of Aguon with the #85 of Blaze Aiken in third. Aguon appeared to have braking issues as he burned past a turn and had to turn and re enter the course. Towards the end Cepeda was cruising in first with Aguon catching back up but time had run out for him as Cepeda took his first overall round win of the 2021 championships. Aguon took second overall with Blaze Aiken in third overall. The rest of the field overall round finishes are as follows.
