MONSTER ENERGY MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIPS ROUND 5

Press Release – Guam International Raceway Motorcycle and Atv Corporation

2021 Monster Energy Guam Motocross Championships Round 5

Round 6 of the 10 round 2021 Monster Energy Guam Motocross Championships was held this past Sunday at the Guam International Raceway in Yigo with covid19 safety protocols still in place. Racing kicked off at 11:30am after a full morning of warm up practices that began at 8am with slick muddy course conditions. Classes ranged from several sized kids minibike and atv classes along with a women’s minibike class up to the larger fuller sized machines of the schoolboy, Novice, 250, 450, Open and Over 40 Vet classes.  An Open Utv, also known as the Side by Sides, class was started after their successful participation in the APL Fiesta Weekend event held back in June. The track conditions by race time were perfect with a good mix of both mud and dry conditions.

Highlights and results

In heat one of two in the Open Motorcycle class #7 JR Cepeda aboard his Yamaha stole an early lead over defending champ and current points leader #1 Little Jon Aguon who was aboard a Team Cycles Plus Kawasaki. They were followed by #85 Blaze Aiken in third also aboard a Team Cycles Plus Kawasaki. At the midpoint of the heat Cepeda had put some ground between himself and the pair of Cycles Plus Kawasaki riders and seemed to then put into cruise control. Aguon however never slowed his pace and by the final lap was on the rear wheel of Cepeda bulldogging him in the corners for the lead. Cepeda did not panic at the attacks from Aguon and soaked it up and took the heat one win with Aguon second and Aiken in third.

In heat two the #1 of Aguon was back up front on the start with #7 Cepeda right behind him. The two along with #85 Blaze Aiken put on a thrilling race with Aguon taking the win and the round 6 overall. Cepeda took second with Aiken in third. The rest of the field finished respectively as follows.
