TOURNEY DAY 6: WARRIORS ONE GAME CLOSER TO FINALS

The St. Paul Warriors routed the JFK Islanders 75-45 to improve to 3-0 in pool play, setting up a showdown Saturday afternoon at 3pm versus the 3-0 Simon Samchez Sharks.

Defense was the gameplan Friday night against the Islanders, forcing turnovers which led to easy lay-ups for St. Paul.

Josiah Quinatanilla had 12 points, EJ Cruz and Jacob Miranda each scored 11 for the Warriors. The winner of the Sanchez vs St. Paul game will advance to the championship game scheduled for Sunday evening at 6pm. The FD Friars will need to secure a win against the St. John’s Knights to advance to the championship as well.

The early game was a bit more physical between the Guam High Panthers and the much improved ND Royals. The Royals held a lead of seven points before the hot hand of Treydan Rosario came alive in the fourth quarter. Rosario scored 11 of his game high 15 points in the fourth quarter to help the Panthers win 54-51.

QUICK HITS

Guam’s Wayne Blas completed his 13th Boston Marathon and 38th marathon overall.
The island’s record holder in the distance, Blas finished this year in 2:35:21.
“I’m very happy with this result because seven months ago, I was sidelined with a stress fracture that kept me out for three months. No running! To come back on an abbreviated marathon build and finish one of the toughest races strong and healthy was a big win for me.”
His time of 2:29:38 at the 2023 Chicago Marathon and World Marathon Majors Age Group Championships stands as the Guam National Record.
