GBC TO HOST 2022 MICRONESIA CUP

Tournament set for June 8-11

PRESS RELEASE – The 2022 FIBA Micronesia Cup is set for June 8-11 at the UOG Calvo Field House and will feature the Guam Men’s & Women’s National Teams defending home against national teams from the CNMI, Palau and Federated States of Micronesia (FSM).

Unfortunately, national teams from the Republic of the Marshall Islands have withdrawn from the competition. The Micronesia Cup is a qualifier for the 2023 Pacific Games and only the gold medal men’s & women’s teams will automatically advance.

The Guam Women’s National program hasn’t seen action since the last Pacific Games in 2019 and is looking forward to competing with some new additions to the program, led by newly appointed head coach Arleen Mad and assistant coach Cy Concepcion. The Guam Men’s National Team is on a mission to return to the 2023 Pacific Games for a third straight gold medal…but first must take care of business at the 2022 Micronesia Cup. Men’s head coach E.J. Calvo is excited to work with his squad full of young talent and is expecting big contributions from every player.

Team Guam Rosters

Guam National coaches have been working to develop rosters since the beginning of the year, starting with the creation of prospect lists of over 50 of the top players eligible to represent Team Guam in FIBA competition. By April 1, the rosters were reduced to 15-20 players, based on eligibility, availability, current health, basketball skills & fitness, performance in recent competition, and commitment to Team Guam. By May 1, rosters should be reduced again with final lineups not required until just before the event.

Tickets for the 2022 Micronesia Cup will be available online soon and are expected to sell out!

If interested in reserving tickets for groups of 10 or more, please email inquiries to: [email protected]

The Guam Basketball Confederation is presented by the Bank of Guam, the Guam Visitor’s Bureau, and the University of Guam; Sponsored by Docomo Pacific, Foody’s, Pacific Points, and Gatorade, and also brought to you by Coors Light, KFC, and the Guam Army National Guard.

Special Thanks to Senator San Augustin and the Guam Legislature for their support of our national teams!
