I MAS METGOT COMPETITION THIS SUNDAY

Family event FREE to the public to enjoy!

Get ready for a fun-filled Sunday as GSPN hosts its 2nd I Mås Metgot Competition presented by the Guam Army National Guard.

Find out whose Guam’s Strongest Man and Woman as five men and four women take on six tough events to test their strength and endurance.

Anthony ‘Big Tone’ Salas and Brittney Pereda are back to defend their titles won in October 2021 inaugural event.

The festivities takes place west of the Paseo Grounds off the Agana Boat Basin and it’s free for the public to enjoy.

Along with Salas will be Ariel Delos Reyes (2nd place in 2021), Tim Nauta (3rd place in 2021) and newcomers Elton Bautista and J.J. Ambrose.

In the women’s bracket, Pereda will be joined by April Flores (2nd place in 2021), weightlifting superstar Jacinta Sumagaysay and Miara Leon Guerrero.

“It’s awesome. I know all the girls,” Pereda said. “One of them becoming a close friend from the event (April) and now one of my best friend (Jacinta) is joining… and Miara and I grew up going to the same middle school. Shows that women can empower each other while showing what we can do.”

EVENT SCHEDULE

12 pm: Pacific Unlimited Ourtigger Lift

1 pm: Pacific Tyre/CTD Tire Flip

2 pm: IT&E Proa Pull

3 pm: Michelob Ultra Keg Toss

4 pm: Paradise Fitness Tombstone Carry

5 pm: Triple J Truck Pull

The winners will be based on a point system earned after every event and will win a cool $1000!

So bring your beach chairs, umbrellas (just in case) and good vibes. Food, drinks and beer will be on sale.

TASA COLLABORATION

GSPN is working with Traditions Affirming Our Seafaring Ancestry, Inc. dba TASA chartered in 2010 is a non-profit traditional voyaging organization.

TASA’s ‘Saina’ Sakman will be used for the Outrigger Lift. Now retired, it was the first traditional sailing canoe built on Guam and to make the first celestial non-instrumental voyage in nearly 250 years. It was built and voyaged by TASI in May 2009 (Guam-Luta-Guam) and navigated by the great master navigator MannySikau from Puluwat. The smaller ‘Geftao’ will be in the water for the Proa Pull.

TASA will be selling food, drinks and beer and all proceeds will go toward the restoration of the Canoe Hut at Paseo.

ROAD CLOSURE

The west side of Paseo will be closed from 11 am to 6 pm while the competition is going on. Parking will be available around the Paseo Grounds.

QUICK HITS

The JFK Islanders won the first ever Memorial Weekend High School Basketball Tournament.

The All-Tournament selection were Zhion Macapinlac JFK, Darwin Ecijan JFK, Matthew Quinata Southern, and Malcom Fernandez Tiyan.

JFK’s Collin Rillamas was named tournament MVP.

The Prospects captured the Guam PONY Colt Spring Baseball League (14-16) championship Saturday with a masterful 2-0 win over the Smokies.
Pitchers Gavin Alcantara (5 innings) and Javier Taimanglo (2 innings) combined to throw a no-hitter.
Taimanglo and Juan Carlo Presnell drove in the two runs for the Prospects, and Skyler Paulino had two hits.
