JFK FINISHES 4TH IN KANTO PLAINS INVITATIONAL

Islanders perform well

The JFK Islanders Cross Country team rapped up their season with some Far East competition in Tokyo, Japan, participating in the Kanto Plains Cross Country Invitational Championships on Saturday.

The small contingent from Guam came in 4th place in both the girls and boys team categories. The Islanders, both ISA XC champions, faced competition against Japanese based-schools, mostly American schools, in Japan.

Hugh Kent ran a 16:10 which was good enough for a second place overall finish for the three-time All-Island champion. Isaac Valdez (18:11), Thomas Cepeda (18:56), Evan Tydingco (19:53) and Hunter Wood (20:00) all finished with respectable times for the Islanders. Stephan Medrano clocked in at 20:08 for the Islanders who averaged 18:14 as a team.

The American School in Japan (ASIJ) won the championship in the boys division with 39 points.

In the girls race, Patricia and Annika Miclat finished 16th and 18th overall with a times of 22:55 and 23:02, respectively. Gabriella Gogue (23:55), Eva Garcia (25:35), Mary Namirembe (26:49) and Nichelle Torcelino (30:10) rounded out the top six for JFK.

Seisen High School won the girls championship with 42 points.

The Islanders head home to start training for next month track and field season. Accompanying the team is JFK head coach Jay Antonio.
