Boulderfest ’23 was held at the Federation’s new facility at Bello Road, Barrigada. The event had four categories: Beginner, Male Intermediate, Female Intermediate, and Advanced. Awards were given to the first, second, and third place finishers in each category. Cody Lee put on a show and was declared the overall champion from the advanced division.

In an exhilarating display of talent and determination, Climbing Guam made history this past Saturday, Sept. 30th, by hosting its very first climbing competition, Boulderfest ’23. With over forty competitors in attendance, this groundbreaking event provided an amazing opportunity to witness the skill and growth of the climbing community on Guam.

Amidst an atmosphere charged with excitement and anticipation, climbers from all levels came together to test their abilities and push their limits. With challenging routes and thrilling climbs, participants showcased their agility, strength, and problem-solving skills.

Boulderfest ’23 marked a significant milestone for Climbing Guam, becoming the first of what promises to be many exciting climbing competitions to come. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all the competitors who showed incredible performance and dedication during this historic event. Their participation was instrumental in making this inaugural competition an overwhelming success,” said Michael Khan, Co-Founder of Guam Sport Climbing Center.

Khan also stated that the milestone event not only highlighted the talent within our local climbing community but also served as an inspiration for climbers of all levels to continue pursuing their passion. “We look forward to witnessing the continued growth and success of Climbing Guam and eagerly await future competitions that will undoubtedly captivate and unite our thriving community”.

Rui Wang, Co-Founder of Guam Sport Climbing Center, said he was pleased to organize and witness the event. “This makes the first ever climbing event here in Guam. The difficulty level ranged from V0 – V8 for all participants during this event. This event has attracted around 100 spectators throughout the day in our neighborhood,” said Wang.

Wang added: “With the limited space and time, our community showed satisfaction of the operation and result of the competition. Local outdoor gear company Southern Mountain Gear sponsored us with prizes for all winners.”
