DELOS REYES STRONG IN PXC 33

MANILA – With all the thundering punches and devastating leg kicks he is known for, bantamweight contender Jon Delos Reyes finished off his fight with a first round armbar, highlighting another exciting Saturday night in Pasig City for PXC 33.

Featherweight fighter Robert Wusstig wasn’t as successful in his bout against Phil-Am Mark Striegl, tapping out less than two minutes into the first round via americana lock submission.

Delos Reyes and Team Lakay’s Troy Bantiag were under the watchful eye of veteran MMA referee Big John McCarthy. After Delos Reyes strolled into the cage with his ‘Hafa Adai’ hat on and fellow fighters Jon Tuck and Josh Alvarez among his cornermen, he was ready to go at it against one of Baguio’s best up-and-comers.

Both fighters exchanged early leg kicks before Delos Reyes pulled off a takedown. Bantiag attempted an armbar, but Delos Reyes pulled out and landed solid shots from the top position.

After the fighters moved back to their feet and exchanged some leg blows once again, Delos Reyes managed to trip up Bantiag and gained top position. After another solid right, Delos Reyes was able to get a hold of his opponent’s right arm and pulled hard until Bantiag verbally submitted.

“I trained pretty hard and I just took whatever he gave me. I wanted to finish the fight fast. Our style is similar but I think I have better technique,” Delos Reyes said after his fight in the cage.

NOTES: PXC 33 originally had two title fights scheduled but both bouts were marred by injury during training: Flyweight title holder Ale Cali suffered a broken nose and lightweight contender Jon Tuck had a severe bruised knee just two weekends ago, canceling both title matches…UFC fighter Mike ‘Quick’ Swick was present at the event.
