AK/CHEVY SPONSOR GFA

[sixcol_five_last]

Soccer/futbol/football, whatever your preference, has become the most popular sport in the world. Since

Coach Garry White has taken over, futbol fever has swept across the island and into the hearts of the members of the men’s and women’s national team.

The Chevy showroom filled with laughter when the questions was asked, “Why a Camaro? Why not a truck or something?” and head coach Gary White replied, “Why not?”. (photo by Errol Alegre Jr.)

“With Gary White coming in, he totally changed everything that’s going on at GFA, the culture of it. We’ve always been progressing in the right direction, but with Gary coming in, he’s really pushed the on-field product as well as getting the community involved. It’s all to him that these things are happening for us,” said Matao team captain, Jason Cunliffe.

The team has been training, for the last three to four months, in preparation for the preliminaries of the 2013 East Asian Cup. Now down to the final 18-manned roster, the team is set. As a testament to the commitment, time, and effort required of the new national team, they put in two-a-days five to seven days a week—most even quit their jobs to focus all their energy into the sport they all love.

AK/Chevy officially announced its sponsorship and support of GFA and the Matao Friday morning in a press conference in the Chevy Showroom. Along with the platinum sponsorship, AK is also the official vehicle sponsor. AK revealed a black 2012 Chevrolet Camaro in which White will be the primary driver. White simlply answered “Why not?” when asked why a Camaro and not a truck or an SUV.

“A hero car for a hero team,” resounded Atkins Kroll President Paul Morris.

“To have a company like AK, with deep roots in the island, to support us in our endeavors, it’s great, and only positive things can come from it,” said Cunliffe.
