PRESS RELEASE – On Sunday at the Guam International Raceway in Yigo round 11 of the Monster Energy Guam Motocross Championships saw the best and the worst that Mother Nature could offer. At 1pm the first of two scheduled heats was sunny with near perfect track conditions but then going into the second round of heats the skies opened up and the track was quickly turned into a soupy mess. It was however attacked by the racers with enthusiasm as the action on the track was intense and a non stop brawl towards earning valuable championship points.
Shell V-Power Holeshot recipients
Taking the Shell V-Power Holeshot award in the Open Motorcycle class was once again #31 Tim Wenden on his Honda Crf450. In the Open Atv class #9 Ramon Torres edged out the rest of the field and took the award aboard a Suzuki Ltr450. #5 Janissa Torres took the Shell V-Power award for the Kids Mini Atv class on her Torres Racing Team supported Apex 90 with #14 Andrew Ignacio receiving the award in the Kids Mini Bike class on his Yamaha Yz85.
High Lights
In heat one of two #31 Tim Wenden for the third time in a row aboard a Honda shot out to an early lead in the premier Open Motorcycle class. Wenden was able to hold the lead for the first eleven laps before being overtaken by Yamaha mounted #915 Anthony Ignacio. Ignacio was able to hold the heat one lead to take the win with Wenden close behind in second. Taking third was in heat one was JR Cepeda on his #42 Johnstone Supplies supported Kawasaki.
At the start of heat two it was again Tim Wenden taking the lead with #3 Jacob Einloth and #915 Anthony Ignacio both on Yamaha’s in his tow respectively. Wenden was on a fast pace leaving the battle for position between Einloth and Ignacio for second. The two Yamaha riders went back and forth and put on a great race for position with Einloth taking second place behind Wenden who finished first and in front of Ignacio who placed third. Taking fourth was the #42 of JR Cepeda with #98 Frank Vawters Jr. in fifth.
Overall it was the #31 Honda of Tim Wenden taking his first round win with Ignacio taking second overall and Einloth with third.
Having already clinched the 250cc class championship JR Cepeda who may have not made it onto the round 11 podium but still managed a calculated finish in fourth has numerically clinched the Open Motorcycle class championship with still a round left in the series. At 15 years of age in which he had only just turned JR Cepeda becomes the youngest rider to have taken the premier Open Motorcycle class in the Monster Energy Guam Motocross Championships.
Other results
In the 450cc Motorcycle class #31 Tim Wenden took first on his Honda sweeping the round over second place finisher #717 William Dunn aboard a Yamaha. Taking third was current 450cc championship point’s leader #19 Zachary Chang aboard a Honda. Taking fourth was #927 Paul Castro on a Yamaha Yzf305 who had just moved up from the mini bike class. Zachary Chang through persistent if not consistent racing during the entire championship series has clinched the 450cc class championship aboard his #19 Honda two stroke.
In the 250cc Motorcycle class #915 Anthony Ignacio on a Yamaha took the win for the second round in a row. #3 Jacob Einloth aboard a Yamaha took a strong second. Taking third for the round was #42 JR Cepeda who had already clinched numerically the 250cc title earlier.
Open Atv class saw #1 Robert Bucek aboard a Cycles Plus Suzuki take the win over #43 Andy Painter also aboard a Suzuki. #9 Ramon Torres powered his Suzuki into a strong third place finish to make it a Suzuki sweep of the podium. Bucek holds a 21 point lead in the championship over Painter going into the twelfth and final round.
In the Kids Open Minibike class Andrew Ignacio took his #14 Yamaha Yz85 to the win with #71 Mathew Sandlin on a Kawasaki taking second and #12 Stoney Bucek placing third. Andrew Ignacio has also numerically clinched the Kids Open Minibike class championship with a round still remaining.
In the 65cc Kids Minibike class #88 Ethan Camacho on a Kawasaki edged out his brother #8 Ry’niko Camacho also racing a Kawasaki for the win. Ethan leads his brother by 39 points for the 65cc championship.
In the Kids Open Mini Atv class #6 Collin Ray Cruz took his Drx machine to the round 11 win with #27 Marcus Manglona on a Docomo supported Apex taking second and #5 Janissa Torres placing third. Janissa Torres aboard the Torres Racing Team supported Apex was able to lock up the Kids Open Mini Atv class championship with one round still remaining.
Kids 90cc Mini Atv class had #6 Collin Ray Cruz on a Drx taking the win with #27 Marcus Manglona taking second. Janissa Torres took the Torres Racing Team backed Apex 90 to a third place finis
Kids 70cc Mini Atv class saw #17 Austin Ojeda aboard a Drx70 take his very first race and round win this past Sunday with #13 the current points leader Bernabe Guerrero placing second on his GTR Motorsports Bobcat Guam supported Drx.
Round 12 of the twelve round Monster Energy Guam Motocross Championships will be held on Sunday August 26th at the Guam International Raceway in Yigo free to come out and watch.
