QUALITY BAGS FUTSAL TITLE

[sixcol_five_last]

PRESS RELEASE – Quality Distributors avenged a regular season loss to the Orange Crushers and claimed the championship trophy of the IT&E Men’s Futsal League with a 6-3 playoff finals win over the former league leaders Sunday at the Guam Sports Complex Gym.

Quality’s Scott Spindel put his team up 1-0 just a minute and a half into the contest connecting on a corner kick play. Ten minutes later, the Crushers’ Marco Napoli evened the contest with a shot past Quality keeper Dave Bush after weaving through Quality’s defenders toward the goal.

Later in the half, Quality’s James Bush took advantage of a free kick to give his team back the one-goal advantage. Less than a minute later, the contest was knotted again, this time with a Stanley Rice-Napoli passing tandem through Quality defenders that created Rice’s shot opportunity near the goal.

Shawn Spindel added another goal for Quality before the halftime whistle to keep the Crushers trailing moving into the deciding half.
Quality upped the ante with another goal by Scott Spindel after he followed up on a shot initially blocked by Crushers goalkeeper Josh Bordallo. Both teams went scoreless for over 15 minutes until Quality’s Ryan Gordon connected on a loose ball following another Bordallo to give his team a three-goal advantage, prompting a Crushers’ timeout.

The desperation by the Crushers showed in the closing minutes of the game following the timeout. The team was able to get within two after Jaime Ortega connected on a kick-in with less than two minutes left to play, but the forced urgency to score got the best of them as the team sprayed a few wide shots in the final minute of the game. Quality’s Joseph Cruz later iced his team’s victory with the contest’s last goal with only six seconds left on the clock to keep the game out of reach for the Crushers.

In the earlier game for third place, the Paintco Strykers “A” team went out with a bang, amassing 15 goals to defeat a substitution-less Guam Shipyard team 15-5.

The Strykers “A” team was led by Francis Chargualaf’s five goals. Randy Santos and Rico Espinosa garnered hat tricks in the victory and Hiro Asoshina, the league’s Golden Boot winner, added two goals. Caleb Barretto and Ross Awa also contributed in the Strykers win. Aaron Jackson scored twice for Shipyard and Donald Weakley, Dave Manibusan and Dennis Denuyo also scored in the losing effort.
