PRESS RELEASE – Big Blue officially takes sole possession of first place in the Bud Light Co-Ed Masters Soccer League following its 4-0 Week 5 win over IT&E/IP&E at the Guam Football Association National Training Center.
The league frontrunners managed just one goal in the first half of play when Jack Kido quickly followed up on a shot initially blocked by IT&E/IP&E goalkeeper Bob Kelley in the 21st minute, but started firing early in the second half to extend its narrow lead.
Pepito Bedia, Jr., the league’s current Golden Boot race leader, doubled Big Blue’s lead in the 50th minute and five minutes later, added another shot from the right side for the 3-0 advantage. Bedia completed his hat trick in the 83rd minute, sending in a rocket from 35 yards out to ice his team’s victory.
In the day’s late game, Hyundai Family FC enters Week 6 with a two-game winning streak after defeating the Rovers FC 2-0.
Hyundai’s John Oh, who came up big for his team in its first Co-Ed Masters League win in Week 4, opened scoring in the 26th minute, making a run from the left side and sending in his shot to the opposite post.
Valiant defending and goalkeeping from both sides prevented most shots until the 81st minute of play. Near the center line, Hyundai Family FC’s Byung Choi caught Rovers goalkeeper Dave Bush outside of his box and sent a shot over him from about 45 yards out for the final score of the game.
With the win, Hyundai Family FC moves up one spot to third in the league rankings ahead of the Rovers FC. The Paintco Strykers, which had a scheduled bye in Week 5, fell to second place behind Big Blue based on points.
Co-Ed Masters League action continues Saturday with Big Blue taking on the Rovers FC at 6 p.m. followed by IT&E/IP&E playing against the Strykers at 8 p.m.
Admission is free to watch the games.
