The Harvest Eagles shutout the Okkodo Bulldogs in their Thursday evening soccer match up 3-0 as both teams are trying to gain grounds for a better playoff spot as the season comes to a close.
The Eagles improve to 5-3-1 while the Bulldogs drop to 4-5-1.
The three goals gave the Eagles the win, but it was the stellar defensive play from Eagles goalie Jaein Nho that secured the game. Nho had seven saves in the first half and eight in the second giving him 15 saves for the game on the Bulldogs 20 shots.
Harvest got off to a great start netting their first two goals in the first 20 minutes. Andrew Baldwin put Harvest on the board in the 11th minute while taking a pass from the wing and getting free for an easy looking goal.
Six minutes later, teammate Cain Takasu got the better of an exchange between the defense near the Bulldogs goal line while managing to get a good leg on a dead shot past Bulldogs goalie to put the Eagles up 2-0.
Okkodo had many chances to score, especially two break away chances in the first half, but they had difficulty setting up for a shot.
The Eagles put on a clinic in the second half by continuing to pressure the Bulldogs defense with 14 shots at goal. Marlon Evans got in the middle of the Bulldog defense and scored the games final gaol in the 69th minute to all but end the game.
With just minutes left on the clock, the Bulldogs and Eagles got into a tussle that forced the refs to call the game.
A physical play made by an Eagle defender had he and the Bulldog’s forward tumbling to the ground. A physical game with some pushing, shoving, and frustration led to a clearing of team benches to separate the two.
The Bulldogs’ and Eagles’ coaches, along with the refs, managed to control the situation before it got out of hand. A little jawing back and forth between some of the players were the last bit of the issue as the game ended.
The scrum did not affect the outcome of the game.
