TRIPLE J CANCER CARE 5K

[sixcol_five_last]

IMG_7440PRESS RELEASE – Every year on Guam, an average of 316 people were told by their doctor they had cancer, and 144 died.  That’s one person dying from cancer every 2 to 3 days here in our island*.  In an effort to address this issue, Guam Cancer Care launched its “JOIN THE FIGHT” pledge to gain support from the community in the fight against cancer on Guam.

“Based on new patients applying for our services, we are noticing that residents are being diagnosed at the later stages of cancer, where survivability rates are lower. The ‘JOIN THE FIGHT’ pledge is a way for us to raise cancer awareness in our community and educate our members about screening guidelines and prevention efforts,” says Terry Cuabo, Guam Cancer Care Executive Director.

“As a family owned enterprise, Triple J has been committed to serving the island for almost three decades, and has remained focused on the needs of our island communities. Our family, like most families here in Guam, has been affected by cancer.  Not only are we committed to Guam Cancer Care’s “JOIN THE FIGHT” pledge, we are pleased to name them as the beneficiary of this year’s Triple J 5K Fun Run.

Our annual run is for families to celebrate health and life.  It also allows us to come together as a community and support local non-profit organizations such as Guam Cancer Care,” says Mr. Robert Jones, chairman and CEO of Triple J Enterprises.

Jeff Jones, President of Triple J Enterprises went on to say, “We know the runners who come out each year to support our run want to be happy, healthy and make a difference. Through this partnership with Guam Cancer Care, we’re able to offer them exactly what they want: a way to engage with our local community and make an impact long after they cross the finish line”.

This year’s run is themed “These Colors Run” to signify the different cancer awareness colors.  This will be the island’s first ever “run of colors” event, which is a growing rave nationwide. Stressing happiness over competition, with paint-blasting stations along the race route.

Organizers are encouraging participants to wear white, ensuring the paint-splattered clothing they wear home are the trophies! The colored “Holi” powder is colored cornstarch and is biodegradable, and will not permanently stain any surface.

The 8th Annual Triple J 5K Family Fun Run/Walk will be held on Saturday, November 16, at the Triple J Auto Group Main Location in Upper Tumon (in front of Kmart).  Showtime is 5:15am and start time is 6am. Registration is now open at Hornet Sporting Goods, Triple J Upper Tumon and Triple J in Tamuning. Race fees are $10 per person, $35 for group of four, and $15 on race day.
