Though some teams did not have enough players, the show still must go on. A month into the Bud Light Women’s 7’s Series, this weekend resumes the league’s games after last week’s bye. The Lions, Ziggy’s, and Poksai Hayan showed up to play and despite a late start, teams were eager and ready for the hard-hitting action to follow.

The second game of the day featured the Ziggy’s going head-to-head with Poksai Hayan. The Ziggy’s ran away with a 21-10, although Poksai Hayan looked to make a comeback in the second half.

Up-and-coming star Ziggys’ Rachel Benavente wowed spectators with her ever-consistent, unforgiving tackles. Benavente built tough and speedy, raced around the defense and into the try zone to score the first try of the game. Janae Sagun scored the next two tries to put her team up 21-0. Ziggys’ Chanel Catano went three for three for the day on conversions.

The second half saw Poksai Hayan’s Andrea Gera place down a try to put her team on the board. Teammate Sandra Estaqiuo followed with a try of her own putting her team at 10 points. However, as time winded down, the Ziggy’s upped the defensive pressure preventing Poksai Hayan from another score. In the last seconds, Catano chased down Gera who was on a breakaway, but a little showboating got the best of her and Catano was able to gain possession of the ball, marking the end of the game.

The Lions defeated Poksai Hayan earlier in the day. The Chiefs forfeited all games this weekend, and the last game of the day was also forfeited due to both teams not having enough players.
