CASTRO, AQUINO, QUITUGUA MEDAL IN OCEANIA DAY 2

In Day 2 of the 2014 Oceania Area Championship in Rarotonga, Cook Islands, middle distance runner Napu Castro captured the silver medal in the 1500-meter event in a time of 4 minutes, 21.13 seconds. The Australian winner smoked the track in 3:54.55.

John Aquino was third in the junior 1500-meter event in a time of 4:14.76 behind two taller Australians. The winner’s time was 4:29.97.

Johnny Quitugua was a bronze medalist in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.55.

In the women’s 400 meter junior event, Raquel Walker came in fourth place at 60.94 seconds while Celine Amparo came in sixth at 62.68.

Pedro Aquiningoc was seventh in the men’s shot put juniors event with a throw of  10.53m.

QUICK HITS

The Figo Islanders 40s women’s softball team took gold in the Senior Softball World Championship in Las Vegas. Figo came out of the loser’s bracket and beat the Arizona Belles 17-3 in the AA division championship game Sunday afternoon.
Other Guam teams that played in the 40s tournament were: Team SOTTA (women’s) and Bud Light Guam, Friars 671 and Sindalun Guahan (men’s).
Sindalu finished a respectable 4th out of 24 AAA division teams.

In Guam’s first time competing in the FIBA Asia Cup, we draw China, Japan, and Mongolia in Group C. Competition begins in 2024. Guam also moves up the FIBA world rankings to #76.
