
PRESS RELEASE – Daniel Llarenas and Derek Okuhama gave up just 12 games in three matches to claim the Men’s Open Doubles championship title at the Hilton Guam Resort & Spa tennis courts in the recently concluded Quality Cup 2014 tournament.
After cruising past Chris Cajigan and Joseph Cruz 6-1, 6-1 in the semifinals, Llarenas and Okuhama defeated Brian Tuncap, Jr. and Joshua Cepeda 6-2, 6-1 in the final for the title. Tuncap and Cepeda had a tougher route to the final, having to rally past Charles Oliver and Wendell Roden 6-3, 3-6, 14-12 in the other semifinal of the division.
In other matches, Michelle Pang and Camdyn Nadler won the Women’s Open Doubles crown after dispatching tennis veterans Rosalie Cao and Arn Diaz, 6-1, 6-2.
Torgun Smith and Yumika Sugahara cooled down junior standouts Joshua Cepeda and Chloe Gadsden in the final of the Combined Mixed 10.0 Doubles, winning 6-4, 5-7, 10-6. Smith also picked up another championship victory in the Men’s 45+ Doubles division with partner Jeff Bristol. Smith and Bristol defeated Jorge Alcantara and Benson Au-Yeung 4-6, 6-1, 10-7 in the final.
Visiting players Kam Chan and Jenny Lin lost just eight games in three matches to claim the Combined Mixed 9.0 Doubles division title. Chan and Lin won 6-0, 6-4 over Masakazu Takahashi and Kayoko Sugahara in the final. Chan also claimed the Men’s 35+ Doubles division title, partnering with C.K. Wong. Chan and Wong defeated Jorge Alcantara and Wendell Roden 7-6, 6-1 in the final. Lin also garnered the Women’s 35+ Doubles division title with partner Jenny Kwan. Lin and Kwan posted two wins in the division’s round-robin format.
Shu-Wing Poon and Sindy Mok, also visiting players, claimed the Combined Mixed 8.0 doubles crown after defeating Jared and Diane Lee 6-2, 6-2.
Pete Cepeda and Dina Jacob outlasted Richard Smithers and Mimi Gaffney in the final of the Combined Mixed 7.0 Doubles division, claiming the title with a 7-5, 2-6, 10-8 victory.

Brother and sister combination of Camden and Gabby Camacho prevailed over their older counterparts in the Combined Mixed 6.0 Doubles division, winning the title with a 4-6, 6-4, 10-6 victory over Lani Labang and Pal Lansigan.
In the Men’s 55+ Doubles division, Ricardo Estella and Raymond Miranda won both of the their matches to finish in first place in the division’s round-robin format.
In the Women’s 4.5 Doubles division, Kayoko Sugahara and Migu Goodman defeated Rosalie Cao and Diane Lee 6-1, 6-3 for the championship title.
In junior singles matches played, Camden Nadler picked up two gold finishes by defeating Margaux San Nicolas in both the Girls U18 and U16 divisions.
Winners and finalists all were recognized with medals at the event’s awards banquet at the Hilton Guam Resort & Spa. Though the tournament officially closed with the awards banquet, eleven matches in the junior division still need to be scheduled. The junior division matches were postponed due to inclement weather during the tournament’s opening weekend.
