MEN’S BASKETBALL GRABS PNG GOLD

The Guam Men’s Basketball played nothing short of gold in their final game of the 2015 Pacific Games after icing Fiji 78-61.  Guam’s last gold medal in the Pacific Games for basketball was in 1979, ending a 36-year-drought!

Joe Blas had another strong performance netting 21 points with Guam closing out Fiji with a 27-17 final quarter. Willie Stinnett scored 18 points and gave Guam a moral boost after hitting a half court shot to end the first half with Guam up 36-26.

Fiji got as close as 51-44 late in the 3rd quarter, but early buckets from Blas and Stinnett in the 4th allowed Guam to recapture a double-digit lead that they would not surrender for the remainder of the contest.
