HAGGAN WINS TRITON MEN’S VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE

The first ever Triton Men’s Volleyball League came to a close over the weekend with Haggan winning the title over The Hammers Volleyball Club.

PRESS RELEASE – The Hammers Volleyball Club came out fired up and defeated Haggan (Powered By Ambrose) 26-24 on the opening set of the Championship Match of the Trident Men’s Volleyball League, but Haggan came back to earn the Championship by wining the next three sets, but it was not easy as the Hammers played hard the whole match.

Haggan was able to win the three straight sets, 25-19, 25-23, 25-21 but most of the sets, the Hammers were able to take an early lead and held tight until the final 5 points, where Haggan pulled away for the victory in each set.

In the semi-finals, Haggan was awarded a forfeit when the UOG Trident Men’s Volleyball Club only showed-up with 3 players and the Hammers VC defeated Guam Community College 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-19).

Haggan finished 8-0 in the league, with a 24-1 set record in the eight matches. The Hammers were 4-4 in the league while Guam Community College finished 3rd with a 2-5 record and the UOG Trident Men’s Volleyball Club finished 4th with a 1-6 record.

Said UOG Athletic Director and TMVL Commissioner, Doug Palmer: “The championship match was a great one to watch, a lot of hard hit winners and blocks back and forth, this was an international level match between Guam (Haggan) and the Chuuk Island team (Hammers VC). But I’m a bit embarrassed that our club team did not show, most of the team members are in our dorms, just a 100 yards away from the UOG Calvo Field House. While “Club” level teams are more for fun and moderate student participation and not expected to do as well as our varsity sports, forfeits are not acceptable behavior at any level especially when the other teams and officials show up for the match.”
