QUARTERFINALS: BULLDOGS SEND DOLPHINS HOME

The Okkodo Bulldogs defended their home court on Friday night in the quarterfinals round of the IIAAG boys volleyball playoffs, beating Southern Dolphins in four sets 25-19, 17-25, 25-15, 25-21.

The Okkodo Bulldogs defended their home court on Friday night in the quarterfinals round of the IIAAG boys volleyball playoffs, beating Southern Dolphins in four sets 25-19, 17-25, 25-15, 25-21.

Okkodo took the first set as their own. Many of the points scored came from service errors and defensive miscues by the Dolphins. The Bulldog offense started to find rhythm that aided in the first set victory, earning ten kills total. The final score in this set was a close 25-19.

The Dolphins evened up the series in the second set after a huge offensive and defensive effort. Southern went on to claim this set 25-17, after a big offensive run which scored seven straight points and only allowed a couple of Okkodo scores.

Okkodo only allowed 15 total opposing points, after 8 kills were tallied. More points were scored from bad serves and rough hitting errors.

In the fourth and final set of volleyball, Both teams were back and forth. Southern started out this set with a 7-2 run. After this run was over, the Bulldog defense blocked all points until the two were tied at seven. After this, both teams exchanged the lead one point after another. This went on until Okkodo hit the 19 point mark. It was at this moment, Okkodo went on a 6-2 run. The last score was a kill from Okkodo’s Derrick Robles.

“We played as a team tonight,” said Robles, “Next time we just need to communicate more.”

The Okkodo Bulldogs will be heading to the semifinals, and the Southern Dolphins will be heading home.
