UGM KICKS OFF WITH TWO-DAY HAFA ADAI EXPO

The United Airlines Guam Marathon is kicking off UGM weekend this Friday, April 6, with the two-day Håfa Adai Expo at the Pacific Islands Club Pacific Pavilion in Tumon. The expo serves as the official pickup location for race bibs and packets,and interested participants can register in person for all four races.

PRESS RELEASE – The United Airlines Guam Marathon is kicking off UGM weekend this Friday, April 6, with the two-day Håfa Adai Expo at the Pacific Islands Club Pacific Pavilion in Tumon. The expo serves as the official pickup location for race bibs and packets,and interested participants can register in person for all four races – marathon, half marathon,10K and 5K. Packet pickup and registration will not be available on race day, April 8.

GSE notes that the Håfa Adai Expo is open to the public and welcomes residents to enjoy the exciting lineup planned — live entertainment; vendor booths, shopping for athletic gear, appareland gifts; and fun photo opportunities. Official UGM 2018 merchandise and running gels will be on sale. The Håfa Adai Expo is open on Friday, April 6 between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. and on Saturday, April 7 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

On race day, April 8, the festivities will begin at 3:00 a.m. with the start of the marathon. Therewill be live entertainment at the starting line, which is located in front of the Guam Visitors Bureau’s office. United Airlines will be giving away a roundtrip ticket to anywhere the airlines flies in Asia or Micronesia at the start of each race – marathon at 3 a.m., half marathon at 4 a.m., 10k at 5 a.m. and 5k at 6 a.m. All registered participants are automatically entered to win.

Friends and family are invited to join participants after the race for the BBQ Beach Party starting at 6:30 a.m. and the awards ceremony at 7:25 a.m. Live music, games and local food and beverage concessions will be available. Attendees are encouraged to park at the south lot of the Joseph Flores Memorial (Ypao Beach) Park.

The JFK Islanders won the first ever Memorial Weekend High School Basketball Tournament.

The All-Tournament selection were Zhion Macapinlac JFK, Darwin Ecijan JFK, Matthew Quinata Southern, and Malcom Fernandez Tiyan.

JFK’s Collin Rillamas was named tournament MVP.

The Prospects captured the Guam PONY Colt Spring Baseball League (14-16) championship Saturday with a masterful 2-0 win over the Smokies.
Pitchers Gavin Alcantara (5 innings) and Javier Taimanglo (2 innings) combined to throw a no-hitter.
Taimanglo and Juan Carlo Presnell drove in the two runs for the Prospects, and Skyler Paulino had two hits.
