Guam’s track superstar Regine Tugade holds Guam’s high school records, but this past week she became the newest record holder for Navy by posting a 24.83 on the 200m. The previous record was set in 2007 at 24.87 with Tugade breaking former record holder Loni Forsythe by o.o4 seconds.
Breaking the record wasn’t even Tugade’s foresight as she used the race in Annapolis as a barometer for the Conference Championships this weekend.
“I definitely did not feel that record coming. I was just hungry for a good time and came out of that race with the confidence I need to carry me through the Championships,” said Tugade.
Regine has already put her accomplishment in the rearview, at least for now, with the team preparing for their biggest meet yet.
“The team is peaking for this competition so hopefully I can finish with even better times than last week, and hopefully come home with some hardware as well,” said Regine.
Stay tuned as Regine and Navy prepare for their biggest meet of 2019 in the next 48 hours!
