The George Washington Geckos continue to roll toward their third straight IIAAG Boys Volleyball championship.

The unbeaten Geckos rolled past the Harvest Eagles Thursday night 25-8, 25-17 with the Eagles coming in from a four-game winning streak of their own.

The Geckos dominated the first set, handing the Eagles quick kills for a 7-0 lead. Geckos’ Devin Maluwelmeng and Allander Ebeo set the pace for their team, giving their opponents a harder time to get to the ball with a couple of kills and aces that the Eagles could not match. With the Eagles seeming stunned by the power of the Geckos, the Geckos took the first set, leaving their opponents with only eight points on the board.

“I’m happy that my team played well today,” said Ebeo about the Geckos performance. “And overall, we just played smart.”

Coming into the second set, multiple errors by both teams had the Eagles nearing a comeback. But, as the Geckos seemed to find their rhythm again, the Eagles could not keep up.

With kills and aces coming from Ebeo, the Geckos stood at 24-12, as the Eagles seemed defeated. But with a mistake coming from the Geckos sides, the Eagles rallied up points quickly to keep the game going, only to be ended by a hard kill from Geckos’ Matthew Soto.

With the playoffs coming closer, Ebeo commented on his thoughts of how his team will do: “I feel the team will do all right if we play the best that we can.”

The Geckos keep their record oerfect at 10-0. The Eagles drop to 5-5.
