RECORD BREAKING DAY FOR GUAM SWIMMERS

Local swimmers joined athletes from Saipan and Palau for the Guam Championships hosted by the Guam Swimming Federation held from May 29th-30th at the Hagatna Pool. Several records were broken as the best swimmers from around the island gathered for one of Guam’s major meets, including a four-record breaking day from Jagger Stephens.

The GW Geckos were out for a bit of redemption all U19 boys volleyball tournament long which fuelled their two-set championship game win over the Harvest Eagles after defeating the Okkodo Bulldogs in the semifinals.

Mission accomplished for the JFK girls Track and Field team. Under the guidance of coach Jay Antonio, the girls hoisted the trophy after holding off a talented Guam High School girls team after all the points were tallied for the 142-132 victory. The victory categorizes the ‘green and gold’ as a dynasty after accomplishing their illustrious ‘3-peat’ championship.

The Shark boys won two golds in day 1 of the IIAAG Track and Field All-Island Meet at the John F. Kennedy Track in upper Tumon. Two events (high jump and discus) were played on Thursday evening at the JFK track.

Former PXC heavyweight champion Roque Martinez has been on the road to recovery over that past two years after a football injury forced him into two leg surgeries. Martinez’ last fight was in 2013 and since then he’s been training hard and conditioning smart in preparation for his first MMA bout set to go down this weekend in Korea as part of Top FC. The Sanchez Sharks were underdogs all playoffs long, but Tuesday night they became champions thanks to a penalty kick from striker Mariah Abbey Iriarte. Sanchez defeated the ND Royals in the finals after shocking the top seeded Dolphins in a shootout over the weekend.

As advertised, the fans were treated to a good show at the inaugural Wendy’s Boys High School All-Star Game at the FD Phoenix Center. In the main event, Fd head coach Eddie Pelkey and his all-star team called Team Supreme made a huge run in the 2nd quarter to help them hold on for the 95-76 victory over Team Elite coached by JFK’s Rey Serafico.
