ROBBIE WEBER YOUTH SOCCER WEEK 2

Youth national team training and international competition experience came in handy for Tigers central defender Shane Larkin Week 2 play of the Triple J Auto Group Robbie Webber Youth Soccer League at the Guam Football Association National Training Center Saturday.

PRESS RELEASE – Youth national team training and international competition experience came in handy for Tigers central defender Shane Larkin Week 2 play of the Triple J Auto Group Robbie Webber Youth Soccer League at the Guam Football Association National Training Center Saturday.

After the Tigers’ Seung Min Kim slotted in a goal midway through the first half, Larkin and the Tigers defense continued into overdrive to shut out the Wings Red in the 1-0 match, despite being outnumbered by their opponent.

“Our game plan from the start was to play more defensively, but to try to find opportunities to win the game by playing as hard as we could consistently for the entire match,” said Larkin, a member of the Guam U14 Boys national team. “It really was a team effort – we tried to keep calm throughout the match and not yell at each other too much to keep our team chemistry.

“For me, in my role with the team, training with and playing for the (U14 Boys) national team definitely made a difference in my development as a player,” Larkin added.

In other U14 matches, the Sidekick SC defeated the ASC Trust Islanders Isa 4-0 with two goals from Noah Bamba and one each from Adryan Lujan and Logyn Lallatin.

The Islanders Betde emerged victors in the final 45 seconds of play with a goal from Mia San Nicolas for the team’s 2-1 win over the Guam Shipyard Wolverines. Brennan Finona scored the Islanders Betde’s other goal and Ryan Lee scored for the Wolverines.

The Strykers clawed back from a 2-0 deficit to force a 2-2 draw with Community First/Days Inn Dededo Soccer Club. Alan Thomas scored both of the Strykers’ goals in the second half. Diether Messner and Logan Bracamonte scored for Dededo.

In U12A division play, the Islanders Betde defeated Tumon Typhoons Soccer Club 6-1 with two goals from Jadyn Palomares and one each from Mason Sanchez, Jason Palomares, EJ Sablan, and Daneeka Ungacta. Caiyle Gogue scored for Tumon.

The Orange Crushers defeated Dededo 5-3 with two goals from Bobby Haddock and Nate Morgan and one from Caeden Wood. Yuuki Kubo, Dakota Ross, and Patrick Haimin scored for Dededo.

The Strykers defeated Tsunami Flood 9-2 with a hat trick from Bryan Nakamine and two each from Levi Buckwalter and Zion Quitugua. Layla Kerr and Kaia Malakooti also scored. Dominik Patillo-Avalos and Yan Ortiz scored for Tsunami.

Guam’s Wayne Blas completed his 13th Boston Marathon and 38th marathon overall.
The island’s record holder in the distance, Blas finished this year in 2:35:21.
“I’m very happy with this result because seven months ago, I was sidelined with a stress fracture that kept me out for three months. No running! To come back on an abbreviated marathon build and finish one of the toughest races strong and healthy was a big win for me.”
His time of 2:29:38 at the 2023 Chicago Marathon and World Marathon Majors Age Group Championships stands as the Guam National Record.
