HISTORY MADE: GUAM WINS FIRST EVER DAVIS CUP MATCH

Guam Tennis history made!

RadioNZ.CO.NZ – Guam has secured its first ever victory in the Davis Cup tennis competition, sweeping Mongolia 3-0 in Asia/Oceania Zone Group Four on Tuesday.

Christopher Cajigan was leading 6-3, 3-0 when his opponent Baatar Oyunbat retired from the opening singles rubber.

Daniel Llarenas clinched the tie, coming from a set down and 3-5 down in the third – saving two match points – to beat Munkhbaatar Badrakh 5-7, 6-2, 7-5.

Mason Caldwell and Jean Pierre Huynh completed the clean sweep with a comfortable 6-3, 6-1 doubles victory.

Having bounced back from an opening defeat by Malaysia, the US Territory will face Turkmenistan on Wednesday, who beat Tajikistan before losing to Bahrain.

The top two from each pool will advance to the semi-finals, with the two winning teams promoted to Group Three.
