TRACK: GREEN PR’S IN 100m FINALS

Sprinter hits runs sub 11-seconds

By Jay Leon Guerrero

SAIPAN – After two decades, the men’s 100 meter sprint had a sprinter qualify for the finals. Guam’s Joseph Green posted a time of 11.11 to make the finals.

In the finals, Green achieved his PR and ran under 11 seconds with a 10.99. Just an appearance in the finals was an accomplishment and the icing on the cake was the sub-11 second time.

“I’m glad to have this PR, I wish I could’ve had a better start but I’ll take it,” said Green. Green’s sub-11 second performance is the first since PhilAm Garcia in 2004.

“It’s been a long journey. Just being here and competing against these fast guys really pushes me alot,” said Green.

Green, who’s specialty is the 200 meter sprint will race on Thursday. He will also run the 4 x 100m relay on Friday.

Toves/Packbier do well in finals

Madison Packbier qualified for the women’s 400m finals and ran a 1:04 for fifth out of seven. Leonie Beu from Papua New Guinea finished first in 55 seconds for the gold.

In the 800m men’s final, Arthur Toves hit a PR with a time of 2:00. Adolf Kauba of Papua New Guinea was first with a time of 1:55.
