2015 PACIFIC GAMES MEDAL RECAP

Guam’s 13 medals in the 2015 Pacific Games (3 gold, 3 silver, 7 bronze) didn’t quite stack up to the hundreds of medals won by Papua New Guinea and New Caledonia, but the three gold medals brought in by the swimmer Benji Schulte, the women’s shooting team, and men’s basketball team were a big step in the right direction. The first annual Pacific Rim Sun Bowl lived up to its name as the sun was just above bearable despite starting late in the Sunday afternoon. The Steel Blazers defeated the visiting Japan Blaze Cats and Team Legacy took out all the best players in the league.

The Island Sports Association (ISA) completed its 1st Annual Fun and Fitness Basketball League with the VRM Panthers coming from behind to win the championship over the Senator Rodriguez Warriors 63-54 Sunday afternoon at the Yigo Gym.

Saturday was a good day for the Guam Basketball Confederation. After the Men’s national Basketball team won the award for the most outstanding team at the Pacific Games, the Under-15 team boys team won the Marianas Basketball Tournament in Saipan, CNMI.

Jonathan Wilde made all the right turns around Merizo Sunday morning, finishing on top of the Guam National Triathlon with professional athlete Charlie Epperson close behind. The relay team of Derek Mandell, Derek Horton, and Alejandro Atoigue were the first to finish the event and Lynn Mattix crossed as the first female solo finisher.
