Football fans were treated to an exciting game as Budweiser Football League semi-final action continued Saturday night at Hal Shiroma Memorial Field in Dededo. The Micronesia Renewable Energy Hal’s Angels won a hard fought battle to defeat the 76/Circle K Eagles 14-6 and punch their ticket to the league championship. The Angels will face the undefeated two-time defending champion IT&E Silver Raiders.

The JFK Islanders made a huge statement Saturday night with another convincing win over a tough opponent. The Islanders came into Guam High’s home court and stole the show, winning 56-31 to remain tied atop of the Taga Division standings in the IIAAG Boys Basketball league.

In the IIAAG high school girls’ varsity league, the ND Royals are looking to take a huge leap forward from a mediocre performance last year. The first two weeks of the 2016 season would convince any spectator that this team is hungry to redeem themselves, as they finished out the day winning two of three matches with their only loss coming in a hard fought battle with the GW Geckos.

As IIAAG high school rugby action resumed at GW Field Saturday, the day could not have started out on a better note. One week removed from a resounding 75-0 victory over the Guam High Panthers, the defending champion GW Geckos had their hands full with the Okkodo Bulldogs as the home team needed the entire 50 minutes of regulation to secure a draw at 12-12.

After suffering an upset defeat on Tuesday, the defending champion JFK Islanders bounced back and defeated the previously undefeated St. John’s Knights 68-53 Friday night at JFK’s home court.

The Silver Raiders are headed back to the BFL Finals after cruising through the Island Chiefs 30-0 in the semifinals Friday night. Friday’s game was played at the Hal Shiroma Football field, the first game all season under the bright lights.

The unbeaten showdown Thursday evening between the Academy Cougars (3-0) and the Guam High Panthers (2-0) at the Ninete Tennis Court almost didn’t happen thanks to a sudden downpour that drenched the playing field. After the court was swept dry, rain ensued in the latter matches forcing the games postponement.
